Wall-mart's focus is on sustainability. They say they want to look at all of their corporate decisions through the lens of sustainability. They reduced their customer's plastic bag use in 2009 by 33% and offered recycling opportunities.

nike states that they are starting the process of phasing out of using pvc products. Right now they use pvc in most of their shoes and therefore have received a lot of criticism for that. So this year they will start releasing there "eco" product line along with NBA player Steve Nash.

Nike wants to collect old sneakers to recycle and make Nike Grind, a sports surface that can be make out of the rubber of the shoes. The goal is to get 5000 pairs to be made in surfacing material, instead of just throwing away the shoes which contain lots of slow to decompose materials in them.

STARBUCKS!

-Starbucks is now opening fewer stores and actually planning out a good location where all can reach. They have actually closed more stores recently than opened them. They are company owned stores. (closing 605 stores) ( only going to be 95 starbucks in America)
-Each cup has messages about the enviorment and how to involve yourself.
-They use local materials now instead of purchasing them from other countries etc.
-They use local companies to make their buildings and cabinets
- and using more recycled materials for cups and other coffee materials.

They have tried to be as environment friendly as they can, without destroying good business. In 2007 they have had 150 individual projects, that reduced water usage, air emissions and green house gas emissions. It also improved energy efficiency and increased recycling.

http://www.apple.com/environment/

This website was perfect! Apple is a hugely growing corporation that we are all familiar with.

Apple's Environmental Mission Statement: "Protecting the environment is critical to the conservation of precious natural resources and the continued health of our planet. Apple recognizes its responsibility as a global citizen and continually strives to reduce the environmental impact of the work we do and the products we create."

Apple makes their products energy efficient, provide customers with estimates of greenhouse gas emissions of their products. Apple's Environment team tracks their products from the very first point of mining the raw materials for production, to the manufacturing, all the way to the packaging and emissions related to transport. On top of this, Apple factors in the environmental impact of its offices and other business operations.

Ever wonder what kind of fish end up in a Filet-O-Fish sandwich? The answer is usually hoki, a bug-eyed sea creature found deep in the Pacific waters of New Zealand.
But it turns out that exporting millions of pounds of the fish each year -- McDonald’s alone at one time used 15 million pounds annually -- is depleting the hoki supply and pitting conservationists against commercial interests.

These two websites have conflicting views, McDonald's has been depleting the Hoki fish population, but now the corporation is switching to Baltic Cod for its fish source.

i chose the starbucks link.

1. I believe that starbucks is doing enough work. They are changing their paper products, their building materials are from local business and they are closing the stores that are not needed. I think that is great they are not being selfish at all.
2. They completely practice what they preach. The even are encouraging people to practice what (starbucks) they preach by inspiring quotes on every RECYCLED cups they give out.
3.I believe the website is a very good article. They website provides the starbucks website and has all the information on what theirr enviromental philosophy is. I really liked this website. RF

I think walmart is doing a lot, they seem very motivated. They are reducing what and how much they as a company consumes and they are also working harder to have recycled and "green" products on their shelves. I feel as though they are doing a pretty good job practicing what they preach, however it would be nice to actually see the changes that they have made, like what products did they change and are they really using less resources. Basically i think they are doing a pretty good job, it would be cool to see the results and what the affects have been, but overall i think they are making a difference and have developed good corporate ethics.

Volvo is working with scientists to create anew type of car that omits less pollution and order it to the air. They are also trying to protect people with allergies by making the cabin air and recycle-able fabrics less of a hazard to people with asthma.

1. I think that what Starbucks is doing is a start and if they continue doing what they are doing they will make an impact on the environment.
2. I don't believe that they will just be 96 starbucks in America i don't think they can resist having more starbucks in popular places.
3. I feel very confident that Starbucks will be more green in the future because i go there all the time and notice the change in the materials they use.

1) I think Walmart is doing the right thing, by using less plastic. But they need to cut out all their plastic bags because i see them in the parking lots littering the streets.
2)I don't believe walmart will go completely green they are too big of a company and make to much many the way they are now.
3) Walmart makes a profit just fine how they are, but it wouldn't hurt if they tried a little harder.

1- I believe that Apple is definitely doing enough. of course this means that they need to keep doing what they are doing because it's the right thing. They take responsibilities with their products, making sure they use environmentally sound materials to build them , and following the products all the way to the end by offering a free recycling program.
2-Apple doesn't really preach much, they just do. they don't go overboard on advertising, but just rely on the fact that their customers will realize the responsibility of their company. Whatever they preach, I think they do that plus a little more.
3My overall feelings are that Apple is a good company that realizes that since they're putting these products out into society they must make sure it doesn't get into the environment.

1. Having chosen the starbucks link, I definitely think that they are doing enough in order to create a more "green" image of their company. They are clearly making changes such as closing stores that are unnecessary and changing their paper products (which are a huge part of their company for the cups).
2. As far as practicing what they preach, I would definitely agree that they are making efforts to do so. As anyone can clearly see, they have already gotten rid of stores around the country that have been viewed as unnecessary. Also, they are encouraging people to recycle and create a "greener" world through messages printed on their cups.
3. I think that this website is insightful to Starbucks' philosophy on how they can create less impact on the environment and what steps they are taking to do so. :) Go starbucksss

After reading the article on Starbucks, I believe they are certainly working towards becoming more "green". I think it's awesome they're using recycled material from their own communities, although I do not believe they are going to open fewer stores. I also think it's awesome that they're using fallen trees, since logging is such a huge issue right now. They are certainly becoming more environmentally conscious, and have plans for the future.
I certainly hope they are going to practice what they preach, because it seemed that this article said a lot of "they will be" and "in the future they hope to..." The plans sound good, I hope they follow through!

1) I think Nike is doing enough in terms of making things more environmentally friendly. They are attempting to recycle shoes and build things out of them (most notably, athletic tracks,) as well as making their boxes out of more environmentally-friendly cardboard.

2) Their approach in terms of doing what they believe is right extends pretty far. Their website policy, I believe, is rather honest, and they seem to do well at practicing what they preach.

3) I believe that Nike, as one of the worlds leading innovators overall in terms of technology, are doing an excellent job in terms of being environmentally friendly. Their innovation starts with their website, which is very fluid and efficient, and extends to the boxes where their shoes reside.

1. After reading the article about Starbucks, I think that they really are putting a lot of effort into making their corporation "Green." They use cups made out of recycled materials, and are now closing down many Starbucks coffee houses because of the economy. It's a good thing to do, to save some money. It also takes a lot of effort to make each coffee house locally comfortable. It's a lot of time and effort, and they're doing plenty for this economy.
2. Yes, I think that Starbucks will follow through with their future plans, and practice what they preach. They had these plans to start shutting some of the shops down, just to save money from the economy, and they did. So hopefully they follow through, and continue making their shops "Green."
3. My overall feeling about the website, is ambitious. I feel like they are determined to get the eco-friendly feel of starbucks, and what they are doing is good. It's all great ideas that they have, and I feel ambitious that they will succeed.

1. After reading about Starbucks, i think their making a good effort to go green, as you can see with their recycled material coffee cups they use. I think there's enough Starbucks around the country as it is, and not necessarily think they should feel the need to add more and close more around the world.
2. I do think Starbucks will continue with their earth friendly ways. I think its a good idea using recycled materials for their stores and making them look local AND environmeltaly friendly.
3. My feelings about the website I read was that Starbucks is really making an effort, and that people seem to enjoy the new atmospheres they are creating in their new locations.
